Felon allegedly had guns, body armor, ammunition at traffic stop

A felon was arrested following a routine traffic stop early Friday after a handgun, assault rifle, body armor and "hundreds of rounds" of ammunition were allegedly found in his vehicle.

Lamar Daniel Ron Wilson Jr., 42, who lists a Suti Lane address in Bonnerdale, was taken into custody at around 12:06 a.m. and charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm by certain persons, each punishable by up to six years in prison, and he had a misdemeanor warrant for third-degree domestic battery, punishable by up to one year in jail, and was cited for having a defective vehicle light.

Wilson remained in custody Friday on a $7,500 bond and is set to appear July 17 in Garland County District Court.

According to court records, he pleaded guilty on Sept. 15, 2015, to a felony count of sexual indecency with a child, involving a 9-year-old female, and was sentenced to six years in prison. The battery charge stems from an incident that allegedly occurred on Sunday with the warrant issued for his arrest Thursday morning.

According to the probable cause affidavit, shortly after midnight, Garland County sheriff's Deputy Eduardo Liera-Grajeda made a traffic stop in the 1400 block of Airport Road on a 2008 Dodge Caravan after noting it had a broken driver's side taillight and it was speeding.

He made contact with the driver, identified as Wilson, and a computer check showed he had the battery warrant out of Garland County. Wilson reportedly stepped out of the vehicle and stated he did not have any weapons on his person, but there were weapons in the vehicle.

Wilson was taken into custody on the warrant and the deputy asked two female passengers, ages 60 and 26, if there were any weapons in the vehicle and they both reportedly confirmed there were weapons and they belonged to Wilson.

Deputy Chandler Overton and his K-9 partner, Sandy, arrived at the scene and Sandy allegedly gave a positive alert on the front passenger door of the vehicle. Inside the vehicle, deputies allegedly located a black bag containing a 9-mm firearm and body armor which had 12 empty AR-15 magazines attached to it.

Near the back seat, deputies allegedly found a rifle case that contained an Olympic ARMS AR-15 rifle and an empty AR-15 magazine. They also found another black case that reportedly contained ammunition for 30-30, 9-mm and "hundreds of rounds" of .233 and .556 ammunition.

The computer check had also revealed Wilson's prior felony conviction in 2015 so he was later charged with the two counts of possession of a firearm by certain persons.
